About John

John Valvo, MA, LPC, LISAC

I believe that beneath every struggle is a deeper story waiting to be understood. My role as a therapist is not simply to listen, but to help people recognize the underlying patterns, wounds, fears, and experiences that contribute to emotional suffering and keep them feeling stuck.

My background includes extensive philosophical, psychological, and spiritual study, along with a master's degree in counseling from Northern Arizona University. I am dual licensed in Arizona as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Licensed Independent Substance Abuse Counselor (LISAC) — the two highest independent licenses available for therapists and addiction counselors in the state.

Over the years I have worked with individuals facing trauma, grief, addiction, depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, and major life transitions. I have found that meaningful healing does not come from forcing people into a rigid formula. Every individual has their own history and way of understanding the world, so I draw from a variety of therapeutic approaches and adapt my work to the needs of each client.

My style is thoughtful, direct, compassionate, and deeply engaged. I value honesty, trust, and authentic human connection in the therapeutic relationship. If you are looking for a therapist who combines clinical experience with depth, insight, and genuine care, I would be honored to work with you.
